Varsity soccer opened their season with an 8-0 victory over the Collegiate School. Allison Smith led the offensive outburst with four goals. Lizzie Barlow, Ally Bowers, Georgia Leary, and Anna Winter added goals for Villa. Both Ava Gueck and Julia Schmidt recorded three assists with additional assists added by Grace Oexeman and Georgia Leary.
The varsity team lost to Visitation by a score of 2-1 last week. The Vivettes scored first only three minutes into the match on a penalty kick. Villa responded in a positive way when Georgia Leary converted a free kick from 25 yards out after Ally Bowers was fouled late in the first half. After a scoreless second half, Viz found the game winner after 7 minutes of overtime.
Varsity had a short turn after the overtime loss to Visitation and traveled to play a tough Nerinx Hall team the next afternoon. The Saints battled for the entire 80 minutes but lost 4-0.
Villa JV started off their season last week playing two of the top teams in our conference. Last Tuesday marked the season opener against Visitation Academy with a 3-0 loss. Last Wednesday JV battled against Nerinx Hall losing 8-0. Although neither game was victorious, the girls continued to go into every tackle strong and worked through the struggles of the game as a team. JV looks forward to this week's games and continuing to grow as a team as the season progresses.
TRACK AND FIELD
The track and field athletes have been training hard and are anxious to participate in their first home track and field meet this Friday against Visitation.
