The Swim and Dive team split two tri-meets last week. Visitation and Ladue both defeated the Saints in the first competition. Then, the team bounced back with victories over Lutheran South and Principia.
On Tuesday, Annie Fox set a new personal record as well as a school record with a score of 408.2 in the 11 dive event, which was an improvement over her school record set last year.
This week, Villa will compete in their final dual meet of the season against John Burroughs this afternoon, while the divers will look to improve their scores at the Ladue Diving Invite. On Saturday, they will begin their championship campaign with the MWAA Conference meet.
BASKETBALL
The Saints grew a little more last week in Villa's 41st Annual Queen of Hearts Tournament. The team had some highlights defensively as their zone defense was able to put a damper on some of the opponents high scoring post people. The team worked well together to double team in the posts and then turn around and get some rebounds against bigger and stronger opponents. In their first game against Whitfield, Karie Adamitis led the team in scoring with 6 points and 3 rebounds, followed by Maiya Smith with 5 points and Moriah Morrow with 2. Grace Benac, Olivia Gehm, and Isabel Behr chipped in with 3, 2 and 2 rebounds, respectively.
In their next match against Eureka, Paige Jackson, Karie Adamitis, Maiya Smith, and Moriah Morrow each scored, and Ryan Harper pulled down 6 rebounds.
Finally, in the consolation game against Ursuline, the Saints were able to slow down Ursuline's point guard. Ryan Harper led the way with 8 points and 6 rebounds, Maiya Smith had 4 points and 3 rebounds, and Grace Benac pulled down 5 rebounds. Let's keep working Saints!
