The Varsity and JV Field Hockey teams both had a great week of games finishing with a combined 5-0 record and 20 goals scored for the week. Stellar performances by the defense and goal keepers Claire Douglass and Paige Jackson allowed zero goals on the week! The JV team wrapped up their season with great wins over Nerinx (2-0) and Lafayette (3-0). JV ended their eight-game modified season with a record of 6-1-1. Congratulations to JV field hockey on their outstanding performance!
The Varsity team also closed out their ten-game modified season with three wins over Nerinx (8-0), Lafayette (2-0), and Whitfield (5-0). Varsity ended their regular season with a 10-0 record heading into the playoffs where they earned the number one seed. Varsity will play the winner of Parkway West vs Notre Dame at 2 pm at Villa on Saturday, October 24. Taryn Tkachuk leads St. Louis in points with 62 total and was named Athlete of the Week by StLtoday.com last Thursday. Gigi Edwards is 4th in points and 1st in assists, while Suzy Keefer is 5th in points and 2nd in assists. Claire Douglass leads the area with a 10-0 winning percentage in goal. All the wins have been total team efforts with excellent performances coming from everyone! Congratulations on an undefeated regular season!
VOLLEYBALL
Varsity had a light week of games, playing two very competitive teams, St. Joe and St. Pius. Even though we didn't get the results we wanted, the girls played tough! This week will be Varsity's last week of regular season competition before post season play begins next week.
JV Volleyball finished their third week of games losing tough matches against St. Joes and St. Pius. The St. Pius match was one of their best of the year, playing good defense and engaging in some great rallies.
The C volleyball team also had a light week with one game against a very strong St. Joseph Academy team. The Saints have been improving and gelling as a team and although they fell to the Angels, their serving has been improving each game. Gaby Hobbs and Bridney Dominguez had some good touches in the back row. Skye Washburn had a great block in the front row, and when we transitioned from the net we got some good swings in!
CROSS COUNTRY
Team members worked on their mileage throughout the week to produce great results at the Hancock Invitational. Rachel Singer brought in a 22:52 to place 14 out of 104 runners. Claudia Boehm finished 29 with a 24:03. Jada Minner also ignited a flame and raced hard last Friday. Villa cross country competed with tenacity this week and it has treated these athletes well!
GOLF
Kate Fesler, Ryan Harper, and Lulu Klebe travelled to Smithville, Missouri, for the state tournament which will conclude today. We wish them well. Go Saints!!
