A MESSAGE FROM DR. SCHROEDER
As a school of the Sacred Heart, we are committed to handing on a love of God, love of learning, love for one another, and love for our world. At our quarterly merit assemblies, our teachers recognize students who have demonstrated this kind of love. Merit cards can be given for many different things, but above all, they are given when a student simply tries to be their best. We want to acknowledge greatness in our students and also recognize that greatness can be achieved in many different ways. Congratulations to all of our first quarter merit card recipients!
Congratulations as well to our recipients of the Regis and Duchesne Awards, given in honor of our patron saints St. John Francis Regis and St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. Pictured below from left to right, Regis Awardees Raul Taca and Will Clayton, and Duchesne Awardees Mary Claire Schwaneke and Natalie Carter.
Miss Caitlyn Lochner is a recent graduate of Texas Christian University and a Villa alumna. During her time in Texas, she worked in the classroom as a teacher's assistant and in the Sensory Motor Lab as a Sensory Motor Coach. As a Villa Duchesne alumna, Miss Lochner said the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart as well as the close-knit community of the school are what drew her to apply for the position at Oak Hill. She is most excited about building relationships with her students and learning more about the Early Childhood field. When not in the classroom, she loves playing tennis and her favorite food is anything Buffalo chicken!
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent-teacher conferences will take place from 4-7:30 pm Thursday, October 22, and from 7:30 am to noon Friday, October 23, via Zoom. There is no school for grades JK3-6 on Friday, October 23. Report cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, October 21, in advance of conference days.
To schedule a Zoom conference, register below with MyConferenceTime.com. Navigate to your child's homeroom teacher to sign up for conferences. You may also schedule conferences with the specialty teachers. Sra. Botero will only be available on Friday morning.
Parents of students in grades 4-6 are encouraged to sign up for a conference with only their child's homeroom teacher. If you have a specific academic concern in a subject not taught by your child's homeroom teacher, please feel free to sign up with that teacher as well.
WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
This Saturday, October 10, is World Mental Health Day. This is a day to remember mental health is part of overall health and needs to be a priority for everyone, whether you have a mental health condition or not. For some students, the scariest part of seeking help is logistics. Here are a few facts about our Counselor:

GET THE WORD OUT AND SHOW SCHOOL SPIRIT
Current students and their families are our best ambassadors to the wider community in spreading the word about what a Sacred Heart education is all about. Campus visits are now available for prospective students and families with an easy online registration. Please share the link below with any interested neighbors, friends, family, and fellow parishioners and encourage them to reserve a date and time today. Visits are individual and take place either after school or virtually via Zoom. We will also be hosting small group events for prospective students from area grade schools in the evenings and on Saturdays. These events will include a couple of activities and an opportunity for interested students to meet Villa girls. If you think your parish school or daughter's elementary school would be interested, please contact Director of Enrollment Management Therese Hagemeister at thagemeister@vdoh.org.
Our recruiting efforts are going to be more grassroots and word of mouth than ever before, so if you know a family that's interested in Villa Duchesne, please send them our way, email their contact information to admissions@vdoh.org, or provide them the link below to learn more about our fall visits and enrollment.
LUNCH ORDERS
Each week, students who wish to order lunch from school should select lunches for the following week using our Lunch Order Form. Place lunch orders by 9 pm each Tuesday for lunch the following week. Order forms will be updated on Wednesdays.
SCHOOL ABSENCES/LATE ARRIVALS/EARLY DISMISSALS
Parents, if your child will be absent, arriving late, or leaving early from school, you can now use the SchoolPass app to notify the school. Simply log into the app and tap the plus sign (+) at the bottom of the screen. Tap the type of change you wish to notify us about and follow the prompts given by the app.
Parents may continue to email attendance-oakhill@vdoh.org but SchoolPass is preferred. Students arriving at school late or leaving early must sign in or out in the Oak Hill Office.
Also, please be reminded that you should call the Oak Hill office at 314-810-3434 if you need to drop off an item to your child. We are currently limiting visitors on campus.
ROSARY | EACH WEDNESDAY
As an act of Thanksgiving, Pope Saint Pius V instituted the annual Feast of our Lady of the Rosary, celebrated every October 7. That is why the month of October is called the month of the Rosary. Saint Therese of the Child Jesus described the Rosary as "a long chain linking heaven and earth; one of its ends is held in our hands; the other in the hands of the Blessed Virgin." Adapted from Let's Pray the Rosary, by Mauricette Vial-Andru
