Tennis—having fun and working hard! TENNIS
In district individual tennis, Lizzie Barlow is district Champion for the fourth year in a row! And, Alex Todorovich placed 3rd over-all in singles. Izzy Cancila and Liza Brown took the Championship in district doubles and Sophya Qureshi and Caroline Potter placed 3rd over-all in doubles. In team district play, the Saints won the district semi-final against Whitfield and they will face Westminster today at home.
JV tennis had a great season! With a very difficult schedule, the Saints ended with a 7-3-1 record. Captains Carlie Croak and Hope Schenk led the team of juniors Harper Bealke, Anna Johnson, Cooper Littlepage and Anna Wiss, sophmores Haley Fusz, Anna Ramey, Madelyn Schoedel, Stella Scudieri, and Nikki Wendel, and freshman Victoria O'Leary.
"Highlight wins were over John Burroughs, Nerinx, and Westminister. All of the girls had winning match records but I'm most proud of how they conducted themselves, always with class and good sportsmanship. All opposing players and coaches had only good things to say about the Villa players. Despite the unprecedented times, the girls had fun, performed extremely well, and had a very memorable season," said Coach Wehrle.
C team tennis had three great wins over Visitation 4-2, MICDS 3-1, and Lafayette 6-4, and two ties with Lafayette High School 5-5 and Lutheran St. Charles 2-2. The Saints two losses were to Cor Jesu 0-8 and a very close match against Principia 2-3. The C team worked very hard this season and their confidence on the court grew with each match they played. They honed their good sportsmanship skills, learned to get match touch, and had fun on the court. C team members include Maggie Bub, Carys Canepa, Elsa Cline, Lily Hale, Kate Hale, Emma Lovett, Na'Myiah Vesey, and Alex Weingart.
VOLLEYBALL
This past week brought some great excitement for Villa volleyball! After two months of practices, the teams were able to step on the court and compete in their first matches of the season. Varsity ended the week 1-2 with a win over Whitfield in an amazing five-set victory. This week, varsity will take on MICDS tonight and Oakville on Friday.
JV volleyball also had some hard-fought matches in their first week of games. They beat Whitfield, lost a tight one to Ursuline in 3 games, and lost to a tough Viz team. Molly Gagan and Olivia Cordes had some great defensive play in the close loss to Ursuline.
