Students get ready to cheer on the Saints and celebrate Pink Night! BASKETBALL
The Saints had a long week of basketball this past week. Varsity started the week strong facing Christian High School, and with a solid team defense, they defeated the Eagles, 39-26. It was a true team effort with Ava Gueck, Maria Adamitis, Allison Smith, Megan Korte, Ryan Harper, Mairin Schweppe, Katie Rodrigues, Maggie Ignaczak and Alexandra Dalaviras all scoring for the Saints.
On Thursday, Varsity traveled to MICDS. Facing a talented MICDS team, the Saints never quit but could not keep up with the Rams.
The basketball teams and coaches would like to thank everyone who came out to the games on Friday. The stands were full of students and the atmosphere was amazing! A special shout out to the Villa dance team who had an amazing performance during half time of the JV game. And, although the teams lost to Nerinx, Villa won the spirit battle and had a successful pink game which will go far in helping the Pink Ribbon Girls!
Last night, the Varsity team bounced back defeating STEAM Academy 44-41. Early in, the game was close and the Bulldogs pulled ahead with some key 3 pointers. But the Saints rallied, sparked by a tremendous press defense, causing key turnovers in which the Saints took advantage. A burst of offense put the Saints up for good! Katie Rodrigues scored 24 points, Maria Adamitis had 11 points, and Alexandra Dalaviras, Sophie Walbrandt, Maggie Ignaczak, and Allison Smith contributed to the score.
The JV team had two unfortunate losses against MICDS and Nerinx. The girls never gave up and proved their skill levels and work ethics. Ava Gueck created many offense opportunities while Ryan Harper lead the team in defensive rebounds.
