Varsity field hockey defeats Brookfield Academy at Gatetway Classic. Photos courtesy of Dave Mack. FIELD HOCKEY The Varsity team finished with one win and two losses in a very competitive Pool A at the Gateway Classic held this past weekend. Despite the weather cancellation on Friday, the team fought hard through three games on Saturday. In the first game of the day, Varsity defeated defending Wisconsin state champions Brookfield Academy by a score of 2-0. In the second game of the day, they fell short by a score of 2-1 to Kentucky defending state champions Assumption. Rounding out the day, Varsity lost 2-1 to Illinois defending state champions New Trier. Overall, the players worked really hard and used this tournament as a growing and learning experience. There was a lot of great play by the Saints shown throughout the weekend and they look forward to growing their individual and team skills. The JV team tied for first in their pool with wins over Nerinx (1-0) and Edwardsville (2-0) and a tie with duPont Manual from Lousville, Kentucky. Based on goal differential, the team crossed over to third place in the tournament where they tied 1-1 with Assumption from Louisville. Great play from the entire JV team earned them a third-place finish based on goal differential in the overall tournament. This group of players is one of the strongest overall JV teams at Villa in recent years and we are excited for the great things to come this season!
GOLF
Golf has had a great pre-season and will be playing their first match today against MICDS at Ruth Park. Starting tee time is 3:41 pm.
TENNIS
The tennis team attempted to start their season last Friday but the weather did not cooperate! Varsity tennis will face Nerinx at home today starting at 4:30 pm.
CROSS COUNTRY

VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball had a great showing with their first matches of the season last Friday. Both Varsity and JV Maroon won their matches in two sets defeating Ursuline Academy. Unfortunately, JV White fell to Ursuline in 2 sets. All three teams head into this week ready to compete and are looking forward to their first home match on Thursday.
