Villa Duchesne Nuts and Bolts | March 7, 2019

We began our Lenten celebration with a beautiful Mass and the distribution of ashes. During Mass, junior Katherine Johnson shared a reflection about being and showing her authentic self. I encourage all of us to follow her suggestion. We aspire to have Villa be a place where all members of the community can share their authentic selves and allow others to do the same.

I invite you to join me in spending these 40 days of Lent reflecting on the gift that is your daughters. I also will focus on ways to allow them to be their authentic selves.
Ms. Bridget Collins

Faith and Spirituality students have been invited to share their class reflections at morning assembly. The presentations are called Wise Women Wednesdays and are an opportunity for upper classmen to share their hard-earned wisdom with underclassmen. Senior Mollie Griesedieck recently shared the role stress plays in her life. Read her reflection below.

Please join us as the Performing Arts department presents Almost, Maine, a romantic comedy. The play is a series of vignettes about love—love lost, love found, love sought—that happen simultaneously during the same ten minutes on a cold, moonless night in the small, mythical Northern Maine town of Almost. Performances begin at 7 pm tonight, March 7, through Saturday, March 9. Tickets are available at the door prior to each performance or online below. All ticket sales are general admission seating. Adults $12, Students $5, Children 6 and under are free. The production is recommended for grade 7 and older and is directed by Ben Nordstrom.

Faculty members Jeannie Steenberge and Jen MacArthur will be chaperoning a service pilgrimage for our high school students to Lourdes, France, from July 23-31. The cost is $2900, which includes all expenses (travel + housing + meals). Students will receive service hour credit for all service performed on the pilgrimage. Interested students can learn more at an informational meeting during morning break tomorrow, March 8, or by visiting and are encouraged to submit an application by Monday, March 11.
Please contact Jeannie Steenberge at or Jen MacArthur at if you have any questions.

The Parent Network of Catholic High Schools is offering Bullying 101, Training Trusted Adults to educate participants about the types of bullying--physical, mental, verbal, and cyber--and how they impact both the person being bullied and the one bullying. This program will be presented by CHADS Coalition for Mental Health from 7 to 9 pm Thursday, March 28, in our Auditorium in the 1929 Main Building. No reservations are needed and all are welcome.

As part of her Service Learning, sophomore Ally Bowers has launched a project that can help make a difference in the lives of foster kids and their families in the St. Louis area—"Jeans for Teens (and youth)." The ReFresh Boutique, run by the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition, has a need for gently worn jeans for boys and girls in grades K-12. The boutique's profits allow the FACC to support families and children in foster care across the St. Louis area, and the boutique offers deep discounts to children in foster care. A win-win situation! Ally's "Jeans for Teens" drive will run through Friday, March 29, with collections spots for gently worn jeans at both Villa and Oak Hill. Your small donation can make a huge impact in the life of the foster youth in need!
