Oak Hill Nuts and Bolts | February 21, 2019
Lately, I have had the opportunity to talk with many parents for variety of reasons. Through these conversations, I have been constantly reminded how much I value our community here at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill. It is wonderful to see moms and dads on campus and engaged in the life of our school. Please be sure to stop by the Oak Hill Office to say hello when you are on campus. Purposefully, we can continue to build a strong community at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill (Goal 4).
Blessings,
GOOD NEWS Our sixth grade students recently performed "Journey to the Afterlife," an original production by music teacher Caroline Zarinelli. The performance, complete with sarcophagus, mourners, dancers, and goddesses carrying canopic jars, was tied to their unit on Egypt in social studies. Because some of the characters were based on historical figures, students were able to research the characters whom they would play. In social studies, students did a separate research project to culminate their study of Egypt.

New and gently used books are needed for all grades and reading levels, from children's books to chapter books. Donated books will fill "treasure chests" in classrooms at St. Louis Catholic and will be awarded to students for good behavior, birthdays, and academic successes. Bins for donations are at the West Door and at the Duchesne Building. Contact Maria Adamitis '20 at madamitis2020@vdoh.org if you have any questions.
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
Even with enrollment in full swing, we still recognize the power behind your voice when promoting Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School to the outside world. Please be sure that you "share" our posts on Facebook and Twitter! We want everyone to hear about all the great things we are doing. This will go far to spread our Sacred Heart Strong message. Bar none, the very best way to market a school is through parent and family networks. You are the authentic voice promoting our school to the outside world. You have family and friends (and they have family and friends, etc.) that may not have heard about all the great things we are doing here!
WEDNESDAY MORNING MASS
On Wednesday, February 27, we will pray for Black American artists. Mass begins promptly at 7:15 am in the Chapel and usually concludes no later than 7:35 am. Mass is celebrated most Wednesdays at 7:15 am in our Chapel when school is in session. Everyone in our school community is invited and encouraged to attend. View our 2018-2019 Mass Intentions list to see the specific intentions planned for each week.
FIRST FRIDAY MASS & EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
On Friday, March 1, Oak Hill will celebrate First Friday Mass at 8:15 am followed by Benediction and exposition of the Eucharist until 3 pm. All are welcome to join the Oak Hill students for Mass or to visit anytime during the day to spend time in prayer and adoration with Our Lord.
While students, faculty, and staff will make visits throughout the day, parent volunteers are needed to ensure that the exposed Blessed Sacrament is never left unattended. For more information about serving, please contact Kelly Adamitis at kellyjadamitis@icloud.com.
SPIRITUALITY SERIES
The final lecture in our 2018-19 Philippine Bicentennial Sacred Heart Spirituality Speaker Series is entitled "Philippine Duchesne: Her Legacy and Call to Us Today" and will be presented by Maureen Glavin, RSCJ from 9:30 to 11:15 am Friday, March 1. Sr. Glavin will use Philippine's life and example as a springboard into an exploration of our own lives and calls. She will examine what we have learned from Philippine and how we are invited to be Christ's Heart in our world today. Coffee and goûter will be available in the Parlor Dining Room at 9:30 am. The presentation will be held in the Global Education Center. Please join us!
