Oak Hill Nuts and Bolts | January 17, 2019

During our prayer at a faculty meeting earlier this week, I shared one of my favorite quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Because we were meeting at the end of a busy school day, I introduced this through a lexio divina style of prayer. The thought behind this style of prayer essentially boils down to the notion that we need to purposefully read and re-read a portion of text several times in order to slow down, truly consider the point at hand, and listen to what really strikes us as meaningful.

"I am convinced that love is the most durable power in the world. It is not an expression of impractical idealism, but of practical realism. Far from being the pious injunction of a Utopian dreamer, love is an absolute necessity for the survival of our civilization. To return hate for hate does nothing but intensify the existence of evil in the universe. Someone must have sense enough and religion enough to cut off the chain of hate and evil, and this can only be done through love."             Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1957)

As we approach the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, I would invite you to incorporate this prayer into your practice as well. It won't take long to read and re-read this purposefully. In doing this, I imagine we all will feel re-energized by a moment of connection with the profound.

Blessings,

Dr. Peter M. Schroeder

GOOD NEWS

Bravo to Oak Hill students! Bravo to Oak Hill teachers! Once again, Oak Hill students demonstrated their acumen and excellence on our ERB testing. If your children took the ERB exams, you will be receiving their scores within the week, but we wanted to share a sneak peek at the data.

A level of distinction that we like to boast about is the percentage of children scoring in the 95th percentile or above on tests and subtests, meaning that they have scored better than 95% of their peers across the nation based on a normed bell curve. Looking at our fourth, fifth, and sixth grade scores, one-half of our Oak Hill students are operating at these incredibly high-achieving levels! A deep respect for intellectual values (Goal Two) is an integral piece of the Oak Hill experience!
