Villa Duchesne Nuts and Bolts | December 13, 2018

The Advent season is a wonderful time for reflection as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It represents a time of hope for our lives and those in our community. There are individuals and families in the greater St. Louis area who need our help and support. Through your family's gift of a Christmas Basket, you are sharing not only your resources but the spirit of the season with those in need.

Ms. Bridget Collins

CHRISTMAS BASKETS

On the last day before the Christmas holidays, December 21, our community will once again come together to celebrate Christmas Baskets Mass to bless the baskets of food we prepare for those less fortunate in our community. Every year, Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School commits to provide at least as many baskets as there are families in our School. Each family's participation in this time-honored tradition is essential to fulfill this commitment. Participation is both an honor and a serious responsibility. Follow our Christmas Baskets link to learn more about preparing your basket and this tradition.

Baskets may be dropped off at the West Door of the 1929 Main Building between 1 and 3 pm Thursday, December 20, or between 6:30 and 8:30 am Friday, December 21. A team of adults and students will be at the West Door to receive your basket. Even if you are delivering baskets, please bring your basket to the West Door first to be included in the total count! The baskets are presented at the Mass.

Please remember this is a REQUIRED school day. Christmas Baskets Mass will begin at 9 am Friday, December 21, in Kenefick Gym. Oak Hill students should arrive at their regular time; Villa Duchesne students need to be at school by 8:30 am for announcements. Students may dress in church-going clothes (NO jeans) or dress uniforms including cardigans for all girls and blazers for boys grades 3-6.

Families are invited to join us for Mass; and ALL students will be dismissed after the Mass for Christmas Break (approximately 10:15 am). The VDOH campus, including all school offices, will close for the holidays following Mass.

CDC HEALTH ALERT

The Center for Disease Control and St. Louis Children's Hospital have issued the following alert regarding the use of synthetic cannabinoids.
  1. CDC recommends that people do not use synthetic cannabinoid products. Synthetic cannabinoid products are always dangerous because it is impossible for people to know what chemicals are in the product, how much they are being exposed to, and how their body will react to the chemicals. The synthetic cannabinoid products associated with recent life-threatening cases in the region are especially dangerous because they contain brodifacoum, a chemical used as rat poison that can cause uncontrolled bleeding.

  2. People who have used synthetic cannabinoid products in the past three months and are concerned about their health should contact their healthcare provider. Synthetic cannabinoid products users who develop any unusual bruising or bleeding should immediately seek medical attention.
