We are pleased to welcome Student Success Specialist Christine Phillips to Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School. She has a decade of experience as an education specialist, teaching at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She has served as subject-level interventionist, student case manager, and collaborator with faculty, students, and families. Mrs. Phillips utilizes data collection and assessments to develop personalized strategies for each student's success. She will work directly with our faculty and administration to help identify and address the academic needs of all students JK3 - grade 12. She shared with us, "My own academic journey began at Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where I became passionate about education. I earned my BA at Loyola University Chicago and MEd at University of Illinois at Chicago. I am honored and thrilled to be part of the community." EXAM PREP
Student exam preparation help will be available on the following Late-Start Tuesdays, December 4, 11, and 18. Teachers will be in their classrooms beginning at 7:45 am to assist students in their preparation for finals. Please encourage your daughter to take advantage of this opportunity.
SHOW CHOIR CHRISTMAS CONCERT Villa Duchesne Show Choirs—Villa Voce, Madrijazz, Pizzazz, and Concert Choir—will present their Christmas concert, Ring Those Christmas Bells, from 5 to 6:30 pm Sunday, December 2, in the Chapel. The performance is free of charge and open to all in our community but seating is limited.
COFFEE AND CONVERSATION Parents are invited to join us for Coffee and Conversation in the Global Education Center of the 1929 Main Building. The focus of the morning will be our students' emotional well-being and how we can partner to support them as they balance a 21st century lifestyle with Sacred Heart values. BOOK DRIVE | ST. LOUIS CATHOLIC ACADEMY
The First Friday book drive for the St. Louis Catholic Academy in North St. Louis continues Friday, December 7, and will be held each first Friday throughout the school year. New and gently used books are needed for all grades and reading levels, from children's books to chapter books. Donated books will fill "treasure chests" in classrooms at St. Louis Catholic and will be awarded to students for good behavior, birthdays, and academic successes. Bins for donations are at the West Door and at the Duchesne Building. Contact Maria Adamitis '20 at madamitis2020@vdoh.org if you have any questions.
FINANCIAL AID Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School offers need-based financial aid for families with students in Kindergarten-Grade 12. ALL requests for financial aid, whether it is for a current or prospective student, require parents to complete an online financial aid application with Smart Tuition Aid. Applications for the 2019-2020 school year are now being processed. Visit our website for application instructions and Smart Tuition Aid to begin the application process. Our school ID code is 12537. Financial aid awards are solely need based and kept separate from the admissions decision process.
SEMESTER EXAM SCHEDULE
Semester exams for grades 7-12 will be held from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday, December 17, through Thursday, December 20. No student is permitted to take a semester exam prior to that week. WEDNESDAY MORNING MASS
On Wednesday, December 5, we will pray for people who are homeless especially during the winter months. Mass begins promptly at 7:15 am in the Chapel and usually concludes no later than 7:35 am. Mass is celebrated most Wednesdays at 7:15 am in our Chapel when school is in session. Everyone in our school community is invited and encouraged to attend. FIRST FRIDAY MASS & EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
On Friday, December 7, Oak Hill will celebrate First Friday Mass at 8:15 am followed by Benediction and exposition of the Eucharist until 3 pm. All are welcome to join the Oak Hill students for Mass or to visit anytime during the day to spend time in prayer and adoration with Our Lord.
ROSARY
All are welcome at 8 am each Wednesday when school is in session in our Chapel to offer the Rosary to Mater for her motherly protection of our children and for all the faculty, staff, and religious of this community who play such a critical role in nurturing and teaching our children.
