Villa Duchesne Nuts and Bolts | November 15, 2018

Image
Sacred Heart Schools are celebrating the 200th anniversary of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne's arrival in North America. Our eighth graders have created a novena to honor Philippine and the attributes and gifts that she possessed. A novena is a form of prayer where special prayers are said on nine successive days. The girls have included prayers, personal reflections, poetry, and artwork to help them identify and connect with Philippine.

Follow the link below to view the novena that the girls have created with the guidance of their teacher, Rachel Kondro. I have found great peace and comfort in this special form of prayer and want to thank the girls for this wonderful gift.

FEAST OF ST. PHILIPPINE DUCHESNE ALL-SCHOOL MASS

Students in grades JK3-12 will celebrate the Feast Day of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne with a Mass at 9 am tomorrow, November 16, in Kenefick Gym. All are welcome to join our students in the celebration.

BICENTENNIAL CLOSING MASS | NOVEMBER 18

November 18, 2018, will mark the close of the Bicentennial celebration of the Society of the Sacred Heart in the United States and Canada. In 1818, St. Rose Philippine Duchesne and four companions arrived in St. Charles and within days opened a school in a log cabin, the first free school west of the Mississippi and the beginning of the Society's mission of education in the Americas. This festive Eucharist will include the premiere celebration of the Mass in honor of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, RSCJ, composed by Michael Joncas for the occasion.

Join our Sacred Heart community for a Feast Day Celebration of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis for the bicentennial closing Mass.

WEDNESDAY MORNING MASS

Due to Thanksgiving break, we will not celebrate a Mass in our Chapel on November 21. Please join us for our next Wednesday morning Mass on November 28, when we will give thanks for our families and friends. Mass begins promptly at 7:15 am in the Chapel and usually concludes no later than 7:35 am. Mass is celebrated most Wednesdays at 7:15 am in our Chapel when school is in session. Everyone in our school community is invited and encouraged to attend. View our 2018-2019 Mass Intentions list to see the specific intentions planned for each week.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Our community offers opportunities to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament in our beautiful Chapel following Oak Hill's First Friday Masses. Oak Hill's next First Friday Mass will be held December 7. While students, faculty, and staff will make visits throughout the day, parent volunteers are needed from 9 am to 3 pm to ensure that the exposed Blessed Sacrament is never left unattended. For more information about serving, please contact Kelly Adamitis at kellyjadamitis@icloud.com.

ROSARY

All are welcome at 8 am each Wednesday when school is in session in our Chapel to offer the Rosary to Mater for her motherly protection of our children and for all the faculty, staff, and religious of this community who play such a critical role in nurturing and teaching our children.
