Grades 9-12 | Spring Sports
Villa Duchesne wishes to provide a safe and positive experience for each of our students who wish to participate in athletics. Coaches will evaluate students based on attitude, work ethic, skill, fitness, and the needs of the program to select the participants of a team. There is no guarantee that a student will make a team even if she was on a team the previous year or that the student will move to the next level in a subsequent year. No-cut sports for spring include Track and Field and Intramural Tennis. For more about our school athletic policies, view our Student-Parent Handbook.
It is mandatory that all students trying out for a team be present the FIRST DAY so that we achieve the mandatory 14 days of practices required by MSHSAA prior to start of season contests and so that everyone participates in the try-out process. If you have any questions regarding a sport, please contact the head coach.
Lacrosse: Number of teams and cuts will be made depending on the number of students trying out. Tryouts begin Monday, February 25, from 3:45-5:45 pm on Condie Field. Please bring lacrosse stick and goggles, mouth guard, tennis shoes, turf shoes, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Head Coach: Sydney Tomaso, email@example.com
Soccer: Number of teams and cuts will be made depending on the number of students trying out. Tryouts begin Monday, February 25, from 3:45-5:15 pm on Holthaus Field. Please bring shin guards, cleats, tennis shoes, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Head Coach: Tim Twellman, firstname.lastname@example.org
Intramural Tennis: Intramural tennis is a recreational offering for this spring. This is a no-cut opportunity; however, the maximum capacity of the program is 32 students. Practices will begin Monday, March 4, from 4-5:30 pm on the tennis courts. Students will participate 3 times per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Tuesday and Friday will be rain days) and will continue through May 10. Please bring racquet, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Head Coach: Joe Wehrle, email@example.com
Track and Field: Track and Field is a no-cut sport. Practices begin Monday, February 25, from 3:45-5:30 pm on Holthaus Track. Students should bring running shoes, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Head Coach: Tim Deines, firstname.lastname@example.org
Subsequent Practices: Coaches will notify players of locations and times of practices for subsequent weeks. It is critical that student-athletes make every practice as they must complete 14 days to compete in their first match.
Athletic Physicals: Please be sure that all physicals are uploaded to Magnus Health and/or brought to School Nurse Sandy Conway or Athletic Director Tim Deines prior to tryouts. Students WILL NOT be permitted to participate in tryouts if this MSHSAA requirement is not met. The School has no ability to waive this MSHSAA requirement. All physicals must be dated after February 1, 2018 to be eligible. Please contact Sandy Conway at email@example.com or Tim Deines at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions regarding physicals.
