Fine Arts

The Fine Arts curriculum focuses on the department's philosophy that every student has creative potential. We teach students how to use the elements and principles of design while developing an appreciation for the fine arts. In order to capitalize on a student's full potential the department provides a solid foundation in both two and three dimensional disciplines. The Fine Arts curriculum promotes visual literacy and encourages creative problem-solving skills in every student.

In the middle school, the curriculum is designed to give the students the opportunity to express their individuality while learning to work with several different materials. The students touch on a beginning experience of art making.

In high school, the students begin with a year long foundation course, Studio Art. This class is currently team taught with a 2-D and 3-D semester. After Studio Art students can choose from the other selected Fine Arts offerings.

"In geology, we did a lab in subduction. (That’s when tectonic plates meet with one sliding under the other!) We had two graham crackers and we put vanilla icing on one and chocolate icing on the other. Then we put a whole bunch of candy on the vanilla one and had to scrape it along the chocolate one to show the different levels of the seaboard."
