Performing Arts

Acting, singing, dancing, communicating, and playing a musical instrument are all at the heart of the performing arts at Villa Duchesne. Students are actively involved in doing these things, not just reading or talking about them. Students perform in music, theatre, and dance in the classroom and on the stage. If a student is interested in lighting, sound, construction, costumes, make-up, and stage management, there are ample opportunities to actually work on a production. Independent study courses are often created by the student and the teacher to meet specific needs -- advanced courses or courses not offered in the curriculum. Even if a student is simply a "lover" of the performing arts, there will be a place for her to continue and deepen her appreciation and interest.

"In geology, we did a lab in subduction. (That’s when tectonic plates meet with one sliding under the other!) We had two graham crackers and we put vanilla icing on one and chocolate icing on the other. Then we put a whole bunch of candy on the vanilla one and had to scrape it along the chocolate one to show the different levels of the seaboard."
