Campus Ministry

Ministry at Villa Duchesne seeks to reach out to the student body in ways which are meaningful, prayerful, and spiritually fulfilling. Under the guidance of our Director of Campus Ministry, the program encourages students and faculty to collaborate. Each person brings wisdom, experience, and enthusiasm to do God's work and discover and reveal the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Ministry happens in intentional ways and just by chance; through planned activities and through simple presence and listening.
Prayer and Worship
First and foremost, Campus Ministry focuses on leading and guiding people in their faith. There are many ways the program leads the community in bringing faith in God into everyday life in a meaningful way:

  • energetic, meaningful Eucharistic liturgies to celebrate feasts and seasons

  • creative, student-led prayer services to explore varied ways to give praise

  • prayers to greet the day at Announcements

Students and faculty contribute to the development of all of these activities, which are therefore meaningful to students as they grow on their individual faith journeys.
Days of Renewal and Retreats
Each class is offered a Day of Renewal, closely aligned with the Theology Department’s learning objectives for the year. In this way, our Days of Renewal are an experiential learning component of the curriculum at Villa Duchesne.

  • 7th Grade: We Are People of Light

  • 8th Grade: Building Christian Community

  • 9th Grade: God’s Revelation through the Sacred Heart

  • 10th Grade: Differing Gifts – Same Spirit

  • 11th Grade: Transformation of the Heart

  • 12th Grade: Interreligious Bus Tour

  • Kairos is offered to Seniors as well, to deepen the faith life of the individual in the context of a Sacred Heart faith community

Sacred Heart educators, retreat facility coordinators, and students collaborate to create an experience that speaks to the needs and lives of the 21st century spiritual seeker.
Raising Spiritual Awareness
Faith formation around issues of our world, our Sacred Heart heritage, and the liturgical calendar help to raise spiritual awareness in our school. Through prayer services collaboratively planned and led, we bring issues to light and nurture the spirituality of our Sacred Heart family.

  • Celebrating the life of a Founding Mother, Janet Erskine Stuart

  • Welcoming and honoring Advent in each Religion or Theology class

  • Providing an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Lent

  • Praying the way of the Cross and preparing for Holy Week

  • Praying of the Divine Mercy Chaplet in times of great need

Heart to Heart
It is important that Villa Duchesne is a safe and welcoming place where each person is valued. Student leaders from our Campus Ministry club, Women at the Well, facilitate our Days of Renewal to create a more personal experience of the Heart of Christ through relationships formed in these settings.
Leading from the Heart
Leaders in Campus Ministry and other campus clubs are encouraged to participate in a leadership workshop where Sacred Heart leadership is articulated and practiced. Kairos Leaders (both students and adults) take time for thorough preparation as leaders, understanding group dynamics and how best to be an instrument for God’s love.

"Villa Duchesne is special because it is not only the home to academic life, but it is also the place where students grow and achieve things as a family."
