Independent Study Program

Villa Duchesne is dedicated to meeting individual students' academic needs. Students who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement or interest in an area of study may move beyond our established curriculum by undertaking an Independent Study Project, normally in their senior year. With the guidance of an on-campus mentor, students engage in a semester of self-directed study on a topic of their own choosing. Recent independent study projects include:

  • The United States Supreme Court: history of the court and major issues in Constitutional Law. (Social Studies Department)
  • Approaches to Negotiation in International Relations: negotiating health, trade, nuclear non-proliferation and environmental issues from the perspective of contemporary Japan. (Social Studies Department)
  • Technical Applications: preparing for the A+ certification exam for HP computer technicians (Technology Department)
  • Creative Writing (English Department)
  • Advanced Painting (Art Department)
