Welcome from our Student Council President
I have never made a better decision in my life than when I chose to go to Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School in 2011 for seventh grade. Although I was incredibly nervous, I was instantly welcomed with open arms and hearts into the tight-knit community. Since then, I have learned so much, deepened my faith, and made some of the best memories of my life. For this reason, I am extremely humbled and pleased to be serving as the Student Council President this year at such a remarkable school that has so much to offer.
Villa Duchesne presents strong academics, arts, clubs, sports, and countless other outlets for a range of students and her specific interests. Whether it be in the classroom, on the stage, or running on the fields, there is truly a place for everyone. It is through these opportunities that Villa girls create relationships that will last a lifetime.
Not only do students create relationships with their fellow classmates, but with their teachers as well. With smaller class sizes, teachers come to know their students personally. Therefore, when they need help, the teachers are able to create individualistic study plans to make sure the student is getting the most out of a class. All of the educators at Villa Duchesne truly care about their students and want the best for them, and this why they offer open door days, early/late office hours, emails at some outrageous hours, and more.
Because Villa Duchesne is a Sacred Heart school, our spirituality plays a significant role in our lives. Through daily 5-minute Espacio, theology classes, student-led prayer services, and Eucharistic liturgies, each student is able to connect with God and grow in her faith. Through this faith, we become loving, supporting, and caring to everyone, both inside and outside of our walls. Another aspect of faith is illustrated in our service to others. Many Wednesdays throughout the year, Villa students go to different service sites across St. Louis in order to provide help and assistance to others.
While Villa has incredible academic, athletic, spiritual, and other opportunities for students, it is also a place for students to laugh and have fun. Through Congé, pep rallies, dance parties during breaks, and seeing our adorable dog, Luca, roam the hallways, there is never a dull moment.
Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School has provided me with countless opportunities over the years. I have been encouraged to take part in as many clubs as I like. I have been encouraged to achieve academically in the numerous honors and AP courses the school has to offer. I have been encouraged to succeed in my athletics. I have been encouraged to deepen my faith. I have been encouraged to go beyond my comfort zone through international exchanges. And I have been encouraged to make the most out of my time here.
Because of all of this, I encourage both parents and students to explore all this wonderful community has to offer. Whether it be from surfing our website, asking a friend, going on a tour, attending an open house, or immersing yourself in the school’s rich history and tradition, I hope you are as pleased as I am. I look forward to creating more memories during my last year at Villa Duchesne and cannot wait to give back to the community as Student Council President.
