FNA101 - Studio Art (9-12)
1 year
1 credit
This is a foundations course divided into two separate components by semesters. One semester focuses on 2-D techniques and one on 3-D techniques. This course is currently being team taught, with students switching instructors at the beginning of each semester. The 2-dimensional component of Studio Art focuses heavily on drawing skills. Students are taught perspective, measuring, and shading. Color theory and painting are also introduced. Students spend time drawing from life and working on compositional skills. Realistic and more abstracted projects are interspersed. Students also work in a variety of materials including pencil, pastels, ink, and paints. The 3-dimensional component focuses on the manipulation of form in space. Special consideration is given to planning craftsmanship as students tackle the challenges presented by different mediums, including but not limited to clay. Creative problem solving is paramount in bringing ideas into 3-dimensional form. Students are encouraged to use materials as tools for personal expression. This course fulfills the fine arts requirement for graduation and serves as a prerequisite and a solid foundation for advanced study in art.
