  Oak Hill Art

The purpose of the art program is to provide students with opportunities to experience the basic elements of media through a variety of materials and expressions. Art instruction at Oak Hill is a process and one in which students are encouraged to think, invent, and express their individuality by organizing and structuring forms according to their own feelings and images. We seek to sharpen the senses of sight, hearing, touch, and even smell and to help students relate sensory experiences to visual expression. Art projects are designed to develop imagination and creativity and to encourage
originality and innovation.

During each year the students are also exposed to different art styles and the work of the masters. However, the primary goals of the art program are to aid students in developing an awareness of how creative processes can be used to communicate, and how artistic expression can be used to both learn and tell about life in other cultures, as well as our own. A concerted effort is made by the faculty to coordinate art projects with classroom activities in the areas of social studies, science, religion, and English. Children in grades kindergarten through six explore art once a week for an hour.
