Villa Duchesne Counseling Program

The Counseling Program at Villa Duchesne provides services for all students which support their academic development, personal development, and college and career planning. Each grade level has a special emphasis:

Two certified counselors are available for students, parents, and faculty:
Mrs. Mary Crowder, Director of Counseling - Grades 7, 8, 9
Dr. Lucy Klostermann, LPC - Grades 10, 11, 12
As advocates for students, the counselors
· counsel individual students and small groups of students with identified needs and concerns;
· consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other helping professionals regarding student development;
· make referrals to community resources on behalf of students.
The counselors welcome the opportunity to meet with students and parents. Appointments can be arranged at convenient times by phoning or e-mailing the counselor.
COLLEGE COUNSELING
Graduates of Villa Duchesne are well prepared to competitively meet the rigorous demands of selective colleges and universities. The goal of college counseling is to support each student in her transition to a college which is the best fit for her talents, needs, and abilities. This developmental process begins in 9th grade with activities that promote student strengths and culminates with her matriculation to college. Students are assigned to the following college counselors:

The college counselors maintain cumulative records on college admission for Villa Duchesne graduates. They prepare the Villa Duchesne Profile to communicate the rigorous preparation of Villa graduates for college admission. In addition, the college counselors prepare and present an annual report for the Board of Trustees regarding statistics of college applications, admission, and matriculation. In order to advocate for Villa Duchesne students, the college counselors build strong relationships with college personnel by visiting institutions, attending college conferences, and hosting the many college admission representatives who personally visit Villa Duchesne.

HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING CURRICULUM
The personal/academic counselors and the college counselors work collaboratively to offer a comprehensive program to support the students' academic development, personal development, and college and career planning for grades 7 - 12. This program contains activities which are carefully planned and developmentally appropriate. These activities are offered for all students.

ASSESSMENT
The counselors are responsible for implementing the assessment program at Villa Duchesne. Activities include identifying the appropriate assessment tools beneficial for monitoring student progress as well as assessing readiness for college admission and success. Counselors will plan the administration of tests by securing test dates, assigning proctors, assigning rooms, establishing registration procedures, identifying accommodations and modifications for students with special needs, ordering test materials, and collaborating with the Instructional Coordinator regarding patterns of achievement.
