Cell Phone Policy

Rationale:
Using cell phones during the school day detracts from the student's educational experience and from the educational environment of the school. Additionally, cell phone technology provides opportunities for abuse by students who are so inclined. Any emergency or urgent messages to or from school may take place through the Coordinator of Student Services office.

Policy:
Students who bring cell phones to school must store them either in their cars or in their lockers, turned off. This policy applies during the student's school day. Normally, the day runs from 7:55 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. If a student has assigned school work either before or after school, her school day includes those times as well. Students with privileges at 2:30 must leave the Main Building before using cell phones.
Athletes may use their cell phones after school is dismissed and before their practices or games begin. For off-campus events, athletes are expected to have their phones on while in transit. During a practice or game, the athlete must turn off her phone and store it in her car or gym bag.

Consequences:
Teachers, staff members, and administrators who observe a student in possession of a cell phone during her school day must confiscate the phone and turn it in to the Director of Students 7-8 or the Coordinator of Student Services 9-12.  The student may pick up her phone at the end of the day.  For a first offense, she will receive a detention.  For a second offense, she will receive two detentions and pay a $25 fine.  For a third offense, the student will earn a one day on-campus detention and pay a $50 fine.
Additional offenses will be handled individually by the Assistant Principal.
