Villa Duchesne offers a rigorous course of study for young women in grades 7-12 with classes in each subject building from one year to the next to ensure there are no "gaps" in a student's education.  And, honors courses and specialized courses are available to challenge each student as she discovers and develops her talents.

Mathematics: appropriate level

Science: 9th Grade Conceptual Physics or

               9th Grade Physics

Foreign Language: French or Spanish I or II

Health/Physical Education (2 trimesters)

 

Electives (choose 1)

Fine or Performing Arts: Studio Art, Chorus, or Theatre

 

10th Grade

Theology: Themes of Scripture

World Literature: Regular or Honors

Mathematics: appropriate level

Foreign Language: French or Spanish II or III

Health/Physical Education (2 trimesters) 

Communication Arts (1 trimester)

Mid East/Far East:  Regular or Honors

Science: Biology, Chemistry H

Fine Arts or Performing Arts:  any class for which   the prerequisite has been met

English: Newspaper, Yearbook (1/2 credit)

11th Grade

Theology:  Social Justice

British Literature:  Regular or Advanced Placement

Social Studies:  United States History, Regular or Advanced Placement; Mid East/Far East

Mathematics:  Completion of math requirement


Electives (choose two to four)

Social Studies: American Government/Economics (H), Psychology( ½ year)

Science:  Biology, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, A.P. Chemistry, Honors Physics,

            Anatomy and Physiology, ECO-ACT

Mathematics: A.P. Calculus, Statistics, A.P. Statistics. A.P. Computer Science

Foreign Language:  French or Spanish I, II, III, or IV H

Fine Arts:  Studio Art, Painting/Drawing I or II, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics,

            Graphic Arts and Web Design

Performing Arts: Chorus I or II, Advanced Theatre ( ½ year) and/or

            Advanced Communications ( ½  year)

Health/Physical Education (1 or 2 trimesters)

12th Grade

Theology: Faith & Spirituality, Senior Project, Comparative Religion

American Literature:  Regular or Advanced Placement

Mathematics:  Completion of math requirement, if needed

Social Studies:  A.P. European History; A.P. U.S. History; Psychology ( ½ year), Women's Studies ( ½ year), American Government/Economics (H)

Minimum Graduation Requirements
English - 4 years
Fine or Performing Arts - 2 years
Foreign Language - 2 consecutive levels in 9-12
Mathematics - 4 years minimum, may include eighth grade Algebra
Health/Physical Education - 6 trimesters
Science - 3 years, including 2 lab sciences*
Social Studies - 3 years*
Theology - 4 years

*plus one more year of either Science or Social Studies
